One common question that both DIYer's and contractors alike ask is: "How much sealer should I apply?"
The porosity of your pavers is critical to the answer. Think of this as the "sponge factor." The more porous the paver, the more liquid or sealer it will absorb. The first step in figuring out how much sealer you need is determining the porosity of the paver from the start of your project.
Generally, the densest surfaces don't accept much liquid. On the other hand, very porous surfaces will quickly soak up water. Is the surface you want to seal DENSE or POROUS?
Easy Porosity Test
1. Make sure your pavers are clean and dry.
2.Drip a small amount of water onto your paver or surface. (A teaspoon, water dropper, or a steady hand with a water bottle will do the trick!)
3. Count how long it takes for the drop of water to be absorbed by the paver.
Absorbed in 0-3 seconds = EXTREMELY POROUS
Absorbed in more than 8 seconds = EXTREMELY DENSE
Generally, apply 2 coats of sealer to POROUS surfaces. You may need to apply more for very porous surfaces. Apply only 1 coat of sealer to DENSE surfaces.
DO NOT OVER APPLY. Additionally, we recommend applying a texture additive such as Diamond Grit in the final coat to increase traction on particularly smooth surfaces or areas prone to slipping, like pool decks, sloped areas or stairs.
This product will cover 400 square feet per gallon on DENSE surfaces. You'll need more product for more POROUS surfaces.
This is an approximation of how much sealer you will need for your project. Depending on the surface porosity, application method, and previous treatments, coverage rates may vary.

So happy with results!!
Let me start by saying I’m 64 yr old female that has never sealed my pavers before this. My patio has been in approximately 15yrs and I have use the same sand from Lowe’s every other year after scraping and picking moss, grass and weeds for days in preparation of power washing and re-sanding. Only to be disappointed over and over. I actually bought 4 bag of sand from Lowe’s this summer. On my way home from Lowe’s I thought ‘there must be a better product out by now’. That’s when a researched and found Dominator!! I returned the sand to Lowe’s and ordered Dominator. I watched all the how-to videos a few times and ordered a stainless steel sprayer. I can’t tell you what a difference this product is. I just finished sealing the pavers 2 days ago with the Dominator High Gloss sealer and my patio looks the best it ever has (even when it was new)! I made the mistake of putting it on too thick in a small area of corners of some of the stones but only I would notice it. I wish I had taken before and after pictures! As you’re walking from the backyard towards the patio, it sparkles like diamonds. I’m so happy I was torn when choosing the best gloss of sealer because I don’t really like ‘really shiny’. I chose the high gloss and it’s perfect. Not too shiny but makes the stones glisten. So if a 64yr old female can do this, anyone can. I would wholeheartedly recommend this product.
